Marking 15 Years of Impact
2027 marks NNU Immigration’s 15th anniversary.
Reaching such a milestone naturally invites reflection, but while anniversaries often focus on the past, I find myself more interested in a different question: what do the last 15 years tell us about the next 15?
That question sits at the heart of our 15th-year celebrations, Future At 15.
Over the coming months, we’ll explore the trends, lessons, opportunities and challenges that have shaped US immigration and global mobility over the last decade and a half, while considering what employers, companies, investors, entrepreneurs and international professionals can expect in the years ahead.
Looking Forward
When I founded NNU Immigration in 2012, the US immigration landscape was vastly different.
Most immigration filings were paper based and remote working was relatively rare. For many employers, immigration was viewed primarily as an administrative process focused on forms, filings and deadlines.
Perhaps the biggest change has been the globalization of talent. Fifteen years ago, employers would defer to looking locally before considering international recruitment.
Organizations compete routinely for talent on a global scale, with employers in New York, London, Singapore, Dubai and Sydney often pursuing the same highly skilled professionals.
Politics, geopolitics and technology have also transformed the immigration system, shaping a landscape that can change quickly and, at times, unpredictably. And yet, some fundamentals have remained remarkably consistent. Businesses still need talented people. Investors and entrepreneurs continue to look beyond borders for opportunities. Professionals still seek to build successful careers and better futures for themselves and their families.
Immigration remains one of the most effective mechanisms for connecting those ambitions. It supports innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and economic growth while helping organisations access the skills and expertise they need to succeed.
That was true when NNU was founded, and it remains true today.
The real challenge is navigating the increasingly complex systems, policies and expectations that govern it. Understanding how those systems have evolved, and where they may be heading next, is one of the reasons we are launching Future At 15.
If the last 15 years have been characterised by significant change, the next 15 may be even more remarkable.
Over the coming months, as we approach our 15-year milestone, we will explore the developments that have reshaped US immigration and global mobility, while examining the trends likely to define the future. We will consider how international hiring has evolved, the changing role of immigration in business strategy, the opportunities emerging for global talent and the growing compliance expectations facing employers.
Along the way, we will share perspectives from our team, insights from our client work and reflections on what the future may hold for immigration in an increasingly interconnected world.
For employers, businesses and international professionals alike, the future will bring both challenges and opportunities. We look forward to exploring them together.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey so far. Here’s to the future.
