Stopgap Spending Bill Funds Immigration Operations Through February 2
President Joe Biden has signed a stopgap spending bill, temporarily averting a government shutdown.
As a short-term measure, the bill will fund some federal agencies, including immigration operations, through February 2, 2024, while other agencies, including transportation, housing and energy, have funding guaranteed only through January 19, 2024.
As the plan is not a full-year spending bill, it has created the unusual situation of two different shutdown deadlines requiring resolution at the start of 2024.
Negotiations on the 2024 financial year budget continue.
